I am a 33-year resident of Kent who cares deeply about the town and am running for First Selectman on the Democratic ticket for election Nov. 7, 2023. I want to have the honor of serving as your first selectman because Kent deserves to have a top leader who governs in a way that is efficient, productive, transparent and respectful. I believe I am that person. I have the background to serve the residents well. While I’ve never been a politician before, I know the issues very well through my work as a journalist over 25 years during the past 3 decades and I can start right out of the gate.
I am in strong support of expanding the Affordable Housing available in Kent. The work that Kent Village for Elderly Housing and Kent Affordable Housing has done to offer apartments has made Kent an early leader in the Northwest Corner. Affordable housing is a must because it allows the town to retain people to work in the businesses. Innovation will continue to allow the town to expand housing options. I applaud the Planning and Zoning Commission for recently altering the regulations to allow property owners to add an additional accessory dwelling on their property if it is categorized as “affordable” as defined by the State of Connecticut. A special shout out to Kent Affordable Housing for stepping up to be a part of this process of qualifying applicants to these privately owned accessory dwellings. This seems like a real win-win to help combat this crisis of not enough affordable places for people to live in town. It is one piece but an important portion toward a solution.
Together we the people achieve more than any single person could ever do alone.
