About Me

I am a 33-year resident of Kent who cares deeply about the town and am running for First Selectman on the Democratic ticket for election Nov. 7, 2023. I want to have the honor of serving as your first selectman because Kent deserves to have a top leader who governs in a way that is efficient, productive, transparent and respectful. I believe I am that person. I have the background to serve the residents well. While I’ve never been a politician before, I know the issues very well through my work as a journalist over 25 years during the past 3 decades and I can start right out of the gate.

Acquisition of Land for Town Uses

The town needs to have a Land Acquisition Fund because the amount of land owned by the Town of Kent is so small it hampers us from being able to serve the townspeople properly. The formation of a land acquisition fund for the town may be happening very soon due to a proposed financial donation by property owners on Ore Hill Road in lieu of open space as the result of a subdivision of their land. They are proposing to give the town $8,800 and if this is accepted and approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission this would result in the automatic creation of a fund to be used for the “purpose of preserving open space or acquiring additional land for open space or for recreational or agricultural purposes,” according to state law. What isn’t included in this state statute is affordable housing, but that is included in the law for a Land Acquisition Fund. I strongly believe the town should approve an ordinance that creates the acquisition fund so that there won’t be any question about how those funds could be used in the future and set up so the town can finally start saving money to purchase land. This is something that has been talked about for over three decades but never put to the voters and launched.
