I am a 33-year resident of Kent who cares deeply about the town and am running for First Selectman on the Democratic ticket for election Nov. 7, 2023. I want to have the honor of serving as your first selectman because Kent deserves to have a top leader who governs in a way that is efficient, productive, transparent and respectful. I believe I am that person. I have the background to serve the residents well. While I’ve never been a politician before, I know the issues very well through my work as a journalist over 25 years during the past 3 decades and I can start right out of the gate.
The closure of Emery Park as a place to recreate has understandably upset many people. I was pleased to learn after watching a recent meeting that the Park and Recreation Commission and Director Jared Kuczenski are working on researching and obtaining information to present to the town on options and costs related to swimming and future use of the town park that was deeded to the town. Many people have talked about their desire to see a wider variety of ages served by Park and Rec. I learned that there are plans to establish more swimming options at Kent School’s pool that would be available to adults in the upcoming months. An adult yoga class option is being offered this fall and I've signed up to participate. The work that Park and Rec has done to offer expanded activities for children is fantastic! And the work that has gone into senior activities as a joint venture between Park and Rec and Social Services is to be commended. I’m glad to see the collaboration and progress on activities for all ages of the Kent population and will continue to support expanding these offerings. Recreation is an important service that townspeople want and should be able to take advantage of with these expanded offerings.
Together we the people achieve more than any single person could ever do alone.
